New boiler time and haven't got a clue!

Right so for a tank system you need a 15 kW boiler !

Vaillant 415 or 615 come to mind or the Worcester equivalent.

Thanks, not having any plubming knowledge, is it OK to have a boiler rated just for the propertys kW? Or should you have one that is rated for more so it isn't running at capacity all the time? Sorry if that is a stupid question

The boiler calculator already includes a 15% allowance for pipe losses and intermittent heating. Don't forget that the boiler size is calculated to heat the house in the depths of winter and the "location factor" takes into account the typical lowest temperature in your region. So the boiler will only be running flat out if the outside temperature is below 0°C. The rest of the time it will modulate down to provide the necessary heat. There should not be any reason for buying one larger than stated.

Of course you need to make sure your rads add up to 15kw or more.

The calculator adds 2 kW for water heating!

Unfortunately even thought they are fully trained on this, many want to add 3 kW. The small difference, although incorrect, is pretty irrelevant.

Then there are the totally incompetent who fit a much larger boiler because they make a larger mark-up ( profit ) on a larger boiler ! They have no concern for the efficiency of your system, just their pockets.

I have seen two 32 kW boilers fitted to flat/house where a 12 kW would be needed. Not surprisingly they were giving problems. At the house the stupid woman thought the larger the better and then employed a non registered to fit it ( badly ).
