New combi boiler

The guy quoting £2600 for a worcester junior is a chancer don't have
anything to do with him.
Do you think that the cheaper quote£1400 is fair. After expenses the fitter says he will make about £450-£500 which he reckons is a good pay for 2-3 days of work.

Depends on the boiler he was quoting.
If he was quoting a cheap £500 boiler then £1400 was reasonable.
for a conversion to a combi system.
I suppose we are all guilty of pricing according to the job and if we
want it or not.
If the job is difficult and awkward or we think the customer is going
to be trouble then the price goes up.
The boiler he quoted on was an Alpha cdx28 which sells for around £650-£700 + all the other bits and bobs removing old holding tank etc + removing old back boiler and making safe + draining expansion tank in loft he is just not greedy i think

I'd honestly avoid alpha. Could get a better boiler for tiny bit more. If he's happy to fit another boiler for tiny extra that's fair play. Result on your part for the install price, I gather things are quiet if installs are that cheap, I'd definitely get a few recommendations just to cover yourself, also double check what your getting ie power flush ( done properly) magnetic filter ie Fernox tf1 or spirovent ( it's really worth the extra £100 odd pound

I still think £1800-2000 quid would be a fair price for a good job, outside of London.

There's quite a lot of work involved just removing the old.

HI, I can see that you dont rate Alpha thats okay, I asked about other boilers he said yes he would fit anything, but because he is an accredited fitter with Alpha he can give an extra 3yrs on top of the 2yrs the maker gives, i wouldnt know a good Powerflush to a bad one in all honesty so I can only hope he does it correctly + he fits a brass (thingy called a magnabooster as standard ) to all new installs. Most of my other quotes recommended Vaillant,WBosch or Veismann all German origin what happened to British made stuff.

We can't produce anything anymore, you can get 5 year warranty on Viessmann from any installer now
