New Deck Treatment

Hi

Ive just had a new deck laid and was advised to use decking oil. Ive been to get some but it says to use after 6 months once the original timber treatment has started to wear so the oil soaks in better.

Any advice, shall I press on and do it now, wait for the oil or use something else now.

So much conflicting info!
