Hello!

Im wondering if any one can give me some advise about this! I have recently bought a new double light switch, after opening I have found it has on the back 3 sockets 1(light),2(light) and L(ive).

After removing the old "switch" I found that it has 4 wires going in to it, two red wires going into two com sockets and two black going into two different L1s holes, so it has two com holes and two L1 holes.

Is there any way of wiring the new light switch in?

Many thanks :D

??? don't you mean switch??

EDIT:

The existing switch is a one way switch and the new one is a two way.

No problem. Only use the L and L1 terminals on the new switch and ignore the L2 connections.

sorry yes switch!

Thanks for the help, is com the live wire? So I would I connect 1 of the wire in com to L on the new socket and tape the other one and two black ones into 1 and 2?

Sorry for all the questions!

You appear to have bought the wrong sort of switch. Two way is not the same as two gang.

It is not on your drawing but,
Was there also a link wire between the Two Red wires that are in the "Two com terminals"on the old switch when you removed it.

Sometimes there is but not always,
If there was, it is Essential you fit that back when you get your new one.

No there was no link, theres two sperate red wires and 2 sperate black wires.

thanks for all your replys by the way

That is not a switch, that is a dimmer. Go back and get a 2-gang 2-way switch.

Looks to me like it may be one button is on/off and the other button a dimmer

I wonder if I have been sent the wrong product! Its not ment to have a dimmer on it, and it ment to have 2 wires for each switch reading more about it says:

"This switch only requires 2 wires for each gang (4 wires per switch)"

It also may be that it switches between
L and 1, button 1
L and2, button 2
Do you have a continuity tester.
However as you have Two seperate Red lives that switch is not really suitable
What make is the switch and did it come with a wiring diagram
