Bought few months back a straight trv drayton trv4, and got around installing it last weekend, however i noticed when the trv is closed (with white cap) there was a bit of water in the head abour 1/6 of the cap i would say, when the trv head is there in frost mode, there was a bit of water seeping from the head (not from the compression fittings or radiator).

Is this normal, all my other draytons are always dry its not something i ever noticed, or do i have a faulty seal?

Thanks in advance

Thanks for that. I had chome trvs that leaked a tiny bit at the top, but the Drayton always felt dry. I just wondered if missed something installing this one.

I will replace the gland seal and hope it fixes it.

I had a problem similar to yours, just a tiny seepage, so small I never noticed it. Result, the head of the Drayton TRV corroded and the top snapped off!
You have caught yours early and unlike mine you will be able to correct the problem without having to buy a replacement top for the Valve.
The reason for the leak is a small O ring inside the valve. Replace that and you will have no more leaks. The leaflet on how to remove the valve comes with the box.

Turn the heating off and when cool unscrew the valve using a spanner and the valve will lift out. The O ring that causes the leak is 2x3mm and fitted on the lower end of the valve, add a dab of O ring lubrication grease to ensure a smooth reassembly.
There is a 1.5x10mm O ring also on the assembly and I replaced that at the same time.
Ensure you buy Nitrile 70 O rings, the material will stand up to the variable heat better than basic rings.
The 2x3mm and 1.5x10mm O rings and grease = £10 apx. all available from Simply Bearings, a very reliable UK company.

Do you have a photo of the o ring you mean? Mine seems to be coming through the flange seal, but the seal looks perfect. I am waiting on a new one to see if it fixes it.

The way you describe it seems you are mentioning a different o ring. But i am not sure which one that is, it would be great if you have a photo of it (hopefully).
