New Hik Vision Install

Afternoon Guys (and Gals)
Have just self installed a 5 camera Hikvision system at my home and got as far as all cameras working and viewing on phone and iPad.

The Darkfighters I believe had two way audio. I get sounds on phone coming from cameras but can’t seem to talk to them from phone.

Is there a basic setting within Hikconnect I haven’t enabled ?

It’s impressive kit and I understand why you pros would use it.8 years ago on last house I fitted an Annke system- how things have moved on.

Have other 4mp cameras but specifically that one on drive and a similar one on the back door were chosen with a view to being able to tell someone the Alsatian loves new meat…..

As a rule of thumb If the camera has a load of holes on the side it’s got a speaker for 2 way speech if not then no …

Alas that model doesn’t have a built in speaker.

It has a microphone to listen in. Not sure if you can add a speaker to it, would have to specification list.

Thanks Secure I Am ..... the moral of the story is I should have got the cameras speced by a professional..... Never mind. Enjoyed grovelling in the loft and making the Cat5 cable ends !! Kept me out of the wifes hair for a bit !

The problem if you go to a company you find online, you may get something cheap rather than what you actually want/ need.

It is not uncommon, for people to be under or over specified.

Last week for example I went to a house where they had a relatively new alarm system, the PIRs didn't detect to me most of the time, they did detect me on some rather large step ladders and coming from the first floor to the ground floor on the stairs.

They also had smokes on the alarm system. we would recommends mains powered smokes that are interlinked (we don't fit these) with battery back up and use a relay board to activate the alarm so they get a notification.

2 heat detectors and 6 smokes, these were hard wired and had no speakers over 4 floors, the alarms keypad wouldn't be loud enough to her on the room next to it let alone 2 floors above the only sounder in a keypad.

so wireless smokes with built in interlinked sounders were added 6, and 2 loud speakers. this was a compromise.

when tested, no one was in any doubt they could hear the fire alarm.

There are so many companies / self employed putting out installations that don't work as one would expect.

No point in having a fire alarm system in a residential property that you cant hear when your sleeping, to be fair the number of fire related detectors were pretty high for a domestic house.

CCTV we tend to find the same issues is the customer wants xyz but doesn't get it.

CCTV:-

DORI
colour day/night
storage

are probably the main things that should be covered DORI and lighting are probably the most important and yet most overlooked.

Last Question

The NVR sits in a small walk in loft cupboard….

Is it ok to Mount it vertical…that will take up less space… and cables that come down the wall will go straight in…obviously the HD is then vertical …

Not a fan of placing NVRs in the loft, usually warmest place in the house.

You need to think about air circulation. Especially if the warm weather continues.

Whilst all the ones I have seen don’t appear to be designed to be mounted vertical, as long as you keep the vents clear I don’t see why you couldn’t.

Makes sure the HDD screws are secure.
