Hi,

I am interested in buying an Ideal combi boiler (new and unoppened with all paperwork) from ebay.

I will be getting it fitted by a Corgi plumber. My question is with regards to the warranty issue - would I be covered (even though I don't have a VAT invoice)?

Thanks, Ash

Have you considered why its on ebay? Its probably because the seller has seen better judgement. Ideal combis are junk - don't touch it with a barge pole - they are always up for sale on ebay.

Use the search on here to see why. :)

I can't judge everything on ebay to be bad as the same seller has also sold a vailant and a worcester on ebay. However, my mum & dad have one of these (ISAR 24HE) for about a year without any problems so far.

My questions is with regards to warranty - where would I stand?

Thanks, Ash

Unless you get a reciept and they are a recognised supplier by Ideal you'll get Jack Shiiit

no such thing as a cheap deal. You will pay for it in the end,

I am getting it £200-£250 cheaper than elsewhere and its brand new - got to be worth it? No one is answering my warranty question - the original question.

I Did answer your warantee question

And what RGI is going to fit it and notify it for you, if you do it you defo wont have warrantee

No one has mentioned the key two points!

Firstly why is it on Ebay? Could it be stolen? Why is he regularly selling new boilers below the Ideal wholesale price?

Secondly, most manufacturers will honour a warranty as a function of the manufacture date. A one year warranty is usually honoured for about 15 months from the manufacture date without any further paper work. That date is usually hidden to varying degrees within the serial number. Call Vaillant tech help and they dont even seem to know where it is!!!

Warranty will be honoured ok if fitted correctly by competent person with all relevant paperwork filled in and signed off. If it is stolen and you put in a warranty call (which you definitely will have to with an Ideal) then chances are Plod will turn up before the Ideal engineer. They will know by the serial number

Questin 1; why do you think you get a better deal than the expert?
Q2; do you buy your oilfilter on ebay and then ask you garage to fit it?
Q3; would it be that you are trying to get the job done for the absolute minimum?
Q4;what do you get when you pay peanuts?

Why do people try and cut as many corners and throats as possible to get something so fundamentally important (and potentially dangerous) as gas central heating and hot water?

Without an invoice you are in a dodgy position.

If you can get your CORGI qualified (relative?) to fill in the benchmark for the 'new' boiler then Ideal should honour the warranty, providing of course your serial number does not show up to be old or stolen stock. The boiler would have to be GWN to be legitimised which means that the serial number has to be disclosed.

Your attitude does come across as dodgy and I doubt any of the reputable gas specialists on this forum would entertain fitting your ebay bargain boiler. If the seller has other mixed manufacturer boilers up for grabs at below cost price then there is something underhand going on.
