Hi. I'm planning to take down an old fluorescent light fitting in the kitchen and daisy chain 4 new recessed spots to replace it.
If I do the work myself must I notify Building Control? I get contradictory when searching online.

And there is no electricity in Scotland today, so no problem there:giggle:
Very good, I was looking at the reports of 5000 homes without power in Wales yesterday, and wonder why anyone would want to move from gas or oil central heating to a heat pump? My solar panels and battery will keep my oil fired heating running, but no chance with a heat pump.

Mains gas not available, they don't want a massive stinking oil tank in the garden, or they have nowhere to install such a thing, or the only place available is not accessible for refilling, or they don't want to sell their souls to Calor or the other lot.

My solar panels and battery will keep my oil fired heating running, but no chance with a heat pump.
More panels and a larger battery will fix that, and if people don't have either then they won't be operating any gas or oil heating.
Or if they have an electric vehicle, that could be used to supply electricity in the rare event there was a lengthy power failure.

Thanks ericmark. It's quickly gone off topic but can anyone expand on the advice. Is it because what I'm doing is deemed minor works despite being in a kitchen?

You normally need more downlights than you imagine - especially in a kitchen.

How big is the room ?

No. It's about the location of the work, nothing more.

Electrical work in kitchens that are also located in Wales is notifiable regardless of what that work involves.
Electrical work in kitchens in England is not notifiable, unless it is replacing a consumer unit or installing an entirely new circuit.

Mostly irrelevant anyway, as no DIY work has ever been notified to anyone, and the consequences of not doing so were nothing at all.
