Hi

I have built my extension in the last year and did the plastering this january. I now have a gap developing around the oak beams and wondered how long i will need to leave it before filling them and what do i use. Just decorators caulk ?

Standard caulk will split as the wood expands and contracts throughout the year.

I'd use a MS Polymer, eg Stixall, CT1, Sixaflex etc.

Unlike caulk they do not shrink back and are as elastic as silicone. Be aware that oil based paints applied over them will never dry. You need to apply waterbased paint over them before applying any oil based paint.

Personally, I would be inclined to go for a clear MS Polymer and then carefully cut in the emulsion.
