I have had a new kitchen installed and the person who fitted it put in a new radial main around the back of the washing machine along the door bar and then underneath the kitchen units, but none of the cable is fitted under plaster, or the floor, or in any trunking. Basically it is just curled up uner the units. Surely this isn't to regulations? Can anyone help me?

That sounds about normal for Kitchen fitters.

Unless the cable needs mechanical protection what you have is just very poor workmanship. The cable should be supported (clipped) but apart from that I'm not aware of any regulations that say it cannot be run surface in the way you have described.

When you say "Along the door bar" is that at heigh level or low level where it could be walked on?

How long ago was the Kitchen fitted and did they issue you with any electrical test documentation?

ok thanks for your help. the cable runs along the bottom door bar, they took it out, put the cable underneath then put the door bar back on, so yes effectively it would be walked on. my main concern was if the door was replaced at any time in the future, the cable could be damaged.

That's outrageous! That does not meet any regs that I've ever worked too and if possible you should get them back ASAP.

Can you post a few pictures of the installation?

sounds like theyve made a pretty poor effort of it, running it under the door bar is not good! suppose someone starts trying to alter the door or do something to the bar without realising the cable is there?

best bet is give them a call and get pretty serious and technical with them about wiring regulations and such. if they care at all about there reputation they should offer to sort it out.

having said that though would you really trust them to 'put it right' having seen there efforts in the first place.
