I'm going to be replacing the radiator in my lounge and while I'm at it I'm fancying some nicer valves.

At the moment their is TRV on the radiator but the lounge is the room with the thermostat in it (no hallway in my little terrace house) So my questions are:

1. Am I right in thinking I don't need a TRV in this room?

2. Are standard wheelhead valves and lockshield valves basically the same thing with different caps.

3. Can I use matching chrome valves with matching caps for both or is that a bad idea?

Thanks

EDIT: the last question is probably redundant; I don't need posh valves on a bog standard radiator!

yes you do not want a trv in same room as r/s,yes l/s and w/h are same valve different caps,l/s cap is used for balancing w/h used to turn rad on/off hth

HI

fit a wheel head valve on one end and drain off on other.

this may sound silly but what happens when the living room gets up to temperature and the thermostat turns the heating off? You loose the heating in the other rooms that may not be up to them?

please discuss.

Adjust the wheelheads on the living room rad, so that it keeps a lower temp than other rooms. Or keep the room stat whacked up !! Other than changing the heating system so that you could control each room individually, its a case of suck it and see.......

so in theory he would be better to fit a TRV and keep the stat whacked up. If all the radiators are hot then the boiler will turn off automatically?

Yeah, I might do that. There is a drain off valve on a pipe run in the cellar but I'm pretty sure that has seized up.

They look a bit ugly on the radiator valve though so I might replace the one in the cellar.
