I see the principal behind it, however it will fall flat on its face, be over budget, have numerous issues, the technology inside it won't work....

Great Britain is invariably ranked at number one or two in the the world in terms of soft power. Having such a ship will enable that to continue, and can enhance business and diplomacy links tremendously.
