Hi
The boiler has recently (01/05/09) been fitted and it shows the code S.53,
the CH system works fine.No hot water available.

The installer is coming tomorrow to check the 3 way valve but I'm wondering if this code is a known problem with these boilers and if so what is the best remedy to solve it?

It has replaced a 20 yr old floor standing Potterton which worked ok but we have decided to replace it as the kitchen is going to be changed.

Any help or advice would be greatly appreciated.

Regards

Mike

nothing to do with boiler as it is heat only. it works or doesn't work !

as you have central heating it works!

probable mid position / zone valves wired up incorrectly.

S53= Poor circulation. There is obviously a fault with the hot water circuit.

S53 is a pain in the ar*e problem with these boilers, part of the reason I won't fit them anymore.

The pump must be set on max (3) for these boilers.

As said above, it will be a lack of circulation problem somewhere.

Thankyou all for your replys,

The installer was very concerned today as to what he may or may not have done.

Fortunately it was not the Boiler at fault but an electrical error.

The problem lay with the Thermostat on the hot water tank which had a live feed into it but no indication to the system as to what the temp was, hence no hot water. At least this is what I gather was the issue from the wife, as I was at work and I need to phone him tomorrow night to clarify.

All seems aok now and hopefully I will have many trouble free years with the Vaillant.

Thanks again

Mike

PS Keep up the good work on this site

UPDATE

I SPOKE WITH THE INSTALLER AND HE SAID THE HOT WATER CYLINDER THERMOSTAT WAS NOT WORKING PROPERLY.

AND YES THE PRIMARY SYSTEM HAD QUITE A BIT OF AIR IN IT.

BOTH PROBLEMS FIXED BUT HE SUGGESTED FITTING AN AUTO BLEED UNIT TO OFFSET ANY FUTURE PROBLEMS.

WHAT DO YOU GUYS THINK?

OR IS THERE A BETTER WAY TO TOTALLY GET RID OF THE AIR PROBLEM FOR GOOD?

THANKS

MIKE

Dont shout! turn your caps lock off!!

any air vent is good if fitted in the right place, so if it is recommended then have it done for piece of mind.

See I told you it wasn't the boiler
