Hi all again.

Was going around the house tonight changing all sockets and light switches to metal brass ones.

Got to the two in the hallway, one down stairs, one up stairs that controls the light in the hallway.

The light switch upstairs however has no earth, just a L and com1 and com2, but no earth.

I didnt have time to check the one downstairs so dont know if that doesnt have an earth. At the moment, both switches are white plastic ones.

Question, assuming the switch downstairs has an earth, does the one upstairs need it? Part of me says yes, as the new face plate is metal, and i dont want SWMBO being shocked, but another part says if the one downstairs is earthed, then the electricity has a route to earth.

Can anyone advise please!

Yes it does need an earth. If the live (common) came into contact with the brass face plate it would remain live.

Has the earth wire been cut back?

or has the C, L1 and L2 been done with TE rather than 3C +E
