Last week we noticed the boiler started to make quite loud noises and when we ran the hot water taps, there was a fair amount of debris coming from the taps.

Went away for weekend and came back to cold house.

Checked boiler and pilot light on and power to boiler but not igniting when heating/water switched on.

3-4 years back we had problems with the PCB which was repaired and the boiler ran fine since until now.

The PCB had a couple of burns on it and some of the solder looked corroded and was not making a connection. We did a temp repair and the heating and water came back on for a good few hours then went off and would not fire up again.

The pilot light is still on and there is power to the boiler. When we switch the heating on we can hear the click but not the firing up that normally follows.

Ordered a new PCB which came today. Fitted it but it made no difference.

Any ideas please we are getting cold!! (and a bit mingy)

The fan should be running slowly even when the boiler burner is off, for the pilot. A little oil judciusly applied may keep you going until you can get the fan replaced.

YAY!! :D :D

Used some precision parts cleaner and a bit of WD40 and the fan running freely again. Everything working again (for now anyway).
Lets just hope it lasts.

Thanks everyone

WD40 typically lasts a few days, thicker oil a bit longer, but expect to buying a new fan.
