When the central heating is On (pump running, room stat calling) the raditor in my bedroom makes weird noises, clicking/tapping, etc. These did not happen before. Also in the airing cupboard where the pipe runs up from the boiler downstairs, it is similar. Could this be scale in the system (system is open vented and over 20 years old). Would a boiler silencer (X200??) be worth a go?

I have checked and no pipes are touching the floor/walls to cause these sounds. Also the pump seems fine when I touch it and can hear its impeller spinning. I must also add that the radiators and hot water (cylimder) are all OK, it's just the noises.

Boiler: Potterton Flamingo II

Pump: Grundfos 15-50 (red casing)

3 port motorised valve (Honeywell V4073A)

Room Stat ACL Drayton

Cyl Stat ACL Drayton

F and E tank in loft

Could the noises be coming from a small piece of debris or solder bouncing up and down in the water rising in the flow pipe to the rad? I had this, only realised what it was when I closed the valve slightly and the noise stopped.

I'll close the valve a little and see. The noises are not just from this rad though. Maybe this has been going on for a while now, but being off today and the house quiet, I noticed it more.

If it works new trv needed??
