Afternoon all. Lead pipes in my flat have started rattling all of a sudden. Any advice on how to fix it, would be enormously appreciated.

Harry Bloomfield : No not a hammer sound. Like a rattling, vibrating type-of-sound. I wish I could attach a sound file!
Chris : I'm not sure I know what 'quarter turn taps' are? They're all, apart from the bathroom sink, mixers.

If its happening when any of your taps are turned on I should imagine its emanating from your main stop valve, try turning it to fully closed then to fully open.if that doesn't sort try at a quarter open but this may affect flow rate

A quarter turn tap, only needs to be turned 1/4 turn - full off to full on, that is as far as they turn. Other types you can turn the handle multiple times.

My taps are the 1/4 turn then. I'll try and turn the main stop valve down to about a quarter.

Thanks for your help.

Then you may have unclipped pipes, an stopcock issue or something else.

The pipes haven't moved in decades, they're the original lead ones. Possibly there's a leak I spose, but I don't think so. You could be right though, but they're buried in the walls and I can't see any signs of water damage anywhere. It's weird because it's only started about a month ago.
