Odd problem

I am very sorry to hear that the manufacturer's engineer could not fix it for you. We expect a 100% service from manufacturers.

If I had installed it, I would expect an apology from the MD of Vokera!

But when I was invited to an installers day at their North London premises, I was asked to move my vehicle from their car park "because I had parked in their MD's parking space". I had to park about 1/2 mile away in a very dodgy place! Thats the respect they gave to me---nil !

Since then I have made sure that I have NEVER ever bought a Vokera Boiler !

Of course, I expected an apology from them but of course they never gave one. They still can and I will pay for the call to 0800 018 8008

OP, why don't you call Vokera and ask if your installer has logged the fault for Vokera to come and fix it.

I have yet to be disappointed by service provided by Vokera from their Glasgow branch. I know some of the guys there- they are at all times true professionals. But then again I do not park on MD's parking space which to me is akin going to someone's house and start using facilities without permission.

Tony you are a very clever man but I cannot understand why you resort to such childish behavior. You have so much knowledge but choose to throw a smokescreen at each step instead of sharing without self proclamation. If my post hurts your feeling, I apologise in advance

Rang them yesterday and they dont know when the engineer will receive the parts and return to my house to fix my "new" boiler.

I am pretty miffed. If I spent £1000 on a new TV and it did not work, I would return it to the shop and expect it to be exchanged, not have to wait for someone to attend my house (at some point in the future) and replace a part.

What would people suggest I do? Should I expect a full replacement of the boiler or could I ask Vokera to extend my warranty to 5 years as a good will gesture?

Maybe I have lost something when reading the thread. Vokera (the company), will attend to your boiler for manufacturing defects during the warranty period.

If an independent installer is dealing with repairs, he then has to source the part to effect repairs.

When a boiler is a new model, often the parts are not on the shelf immediately after it has been launched. I have found this to be the case with various makes.

Perhaps I should reread this thread to get better understanding of what it is all about.

I suggest you consult your local trading standards department. The person who supplied and fitted your new boiler is ultimately responsible. If you yourself bought the boiler and subsequently got someone in to fit it, then it might be down to you to hassle Vokera for their warranty cover, but if the installer supplied it, then they are the "shop".

It does not need any over reaction. Its a new boiler and a new model. Its quite common for spares availability to follow the sale of the boiler.

You have been unlucky. But that situation often happens when spares follow the boiler. Its not your installer's fault and it happens with any boiler manufacturer. We would love them to be better organised but if they cannot organise parking then its of no surprise to me.

DP, the MDs space was not specifically marked and it was the only one left. If they invited me there then I think its reasonable that they should use every endeavour to provide adequate parking spaces. Instead they were curt to the point of being rude, probably as they were frightened of their MD.

All they wanted me to do was take my car elsewhere and the only place available was about 1/2 mile away. I think my reaction is quite justified in the circumstances. They could have been apologetic and suggested somewhere else where I could park.

Hmm...if I bought the latest BMW and if, immediately after delivery, it sat outside my house for a week waiting for spares, I wouldn't be sympathetic with the manufacturer. Iif Vokera's latest boiler is knackered on installation, and they don't hold the spares, they should jolly well come to the customers house with a whole replacement boiler!

Although I am a tradesman, I can't help but take the customers point of view on this one.

I would be insisting that Vokera replace the boiler. Replaced a few myself when I worked for a different manufacturer when people have had a few too many problems, quite often as more of a placebo for the customer than a cure. Reputations can be damaged by such poor service. Doesn't affect me cos I wouldn't buy one anyway.

In all the arguments about whether it should take a day or a week to fix a new boiler, an important issue seems to have been skipped over. The boiler should never have been commissioned without all the hot water outlets working properly. Sloppy job, so don't let the installer off the hook completely.

Still, I'd be a bit miffed to buy an expensive new anything that didn't work out of the box and be expected to sit and wait any length of time to get it fixed. And if I was the installer I'd be miffed with Vokera.

Folks this is a boiler! Its got hundreds of parts and in this case something is wrong. I do hope they have correctly identified the fault.

Even if the manufacturers dont have all the parts yet they can either have it sent from Italy by courier OR they can dismantle another new boiler to "borrow" the parts.

If they cannot get the parts within a week then they should do one of the above. But it does not surprise me that this has happened. Most manufacturers dont much much of an effort!

Someone I knew was told by Worcester, when the fan failed after one week, on the 21st December that the earliest they could get him an engineer was the 1st January. After arguing a lot they sent someone on the 29th December. I could have fixed it on the 21st but that would have cost him.

Fitted a Feroli year's ago it was in the house for 2 week's & only ever worked for an hour 24 phone call's 6 service visit's later still never worked took it out got me money back fitted an alternative make , apparently a batch came out the factory with the wrong gas valve's !! or so they said !!

Incidentally someoneI know had a halstead combi fitted about 4 month's ago had a similar hot water problem , they ( halstead) could not resolve the problem got a refund & put another make in !!

Fixing boilers is not a very difficult task.

Wrong gas valve, change the gas valve.

Its not that halstead could not fix it, its the guys they sent!

Anything can be fixed. All it needs is someone to do the job.
