Are you sure it's not IP rated, we fitted some Brown switches which looked exactly like standard white versions but internally were completely different and rated to IP66.

So there are! after a megga zoom on my diddy screen I see them! I think I will stick to the blu tac and brick just like cunny suggested why change a winning formula!

As Andy said, isn't it probably a bell push, switching ELV, and therefore not in need of any IP rating?

Disregarding the operating voltage, don't items of electrical equipment need to be rated to their environment, as per 132.5.1?

I mean, surely a switch that is intended for indoor use will degrade if used outdoors regardless of what voltage it is rated for?

That's an interesting question - I'll have to look at the regs an have a think. I'm not sure that BS7671 is concerned about 'degradation' as much as safety

In the meantime, I could observe that I've come across many an external (ELV) bell push that was full of spiders, water, rust and goodness knows what (and, usually, still working!) - so I'm not convinced that they have had much of an IP rating!
