Oh Jimmy Jimmy

Big reason for a shortage of Drs in this country will probably be down to exclusion from the elites club.
What elite club?

If you mean does it all boils down to money, then the answer is yes. Also time is a factor as it's a drawn out affair. None of the right wing political parties are interested in changing the 'elite club' status quo. Seems this thread is a bit of an own goal for the RWR.

No it shows the difference between opportunities between different countries, our system has a very high standard and criteria of entry, usually resulting in only the privalleged who have gone to the right schools and had parents as Drs who are at a distinct advantage.

The question would be could we allow more medical school places whilst still maintaining standards.

But are our standards set too high as we have to import Drs from other countries where their entry standards are lower

Eh? You are digressing again.

You mean with the right qualifications and funds to see a student through medical school they can become a doctor? Privilege, or 'the right schools' alone won't get you entry into med school. Are you saying a privileged dunce will be preferred in med school, over a working class triple A student?

If you don't make the grade here and then import a Dr from a country where the entry requirements are of a lower standard, why not lower our standards?

You mean, why not make it more affordable, like it is for those overseas - whilst maintaining standards?

Regards the above - forget the right wing political parties. (n)

Describe what you mean by standards are still being maintained?

While the UK offers a direct route to the NHS, studying medicine in Europe is considered a "smarter" or more accessible route for students who may not have achieved top grades or who want to avoid the intense competition of the UCAS cycle.
