Painted my daughters bedroom yesterday with Crown Easy Clean emulsion. Once dry, parts have cracked and the paint has begun to flake off. What would cause this?
what was on walls prior to painting ,you may have to start again using a stabilizer primer them your easy coat, wash wall and light rub with sandpaper,
Previously the walls were painted with Magnolia emulsion. The only thing I can think is dust on the walls - I put up some coving and filled and sanded all the joints etc. I did vacuum and wash down the walls afterwards with a damp cloth to remove any dust on there. Maybe a little dust was left behind?
So, my best course of action is sand down where the paint is flakey, clean off, apply stabilizer then repaint? Is the stabilizer something B&Q will stock?
Is it just your new topcoat that has fallen off? If so, the emulsion underneath was rather poor quality and it is porous, which then allows the wall to suck out the water from the new paint before it has time to stick to the wall.
Try watering down the paint to prevent this from happening.
The old magnolia was a matt finish, as was the new Crown Easy clean emulsion. Didn't water anything down, or sand, just applied straight onto the walls (after mixing).
Beginning to realise in can't have been dust last night as inside the wardrobe was also affected and no coving or sanding has been done in there.
Have been told to get 1 litre of PVA and 2.5 litres of white emulsion, mix them both together and paint that onto the wall. Once dry I can apply my top coat. Not going for Crown Easy Clean this time. Going to try and get B&Q to mix the same colour in a Dulux.
