View media item 2122This is a cold store door heater transformer i saw today. The picture is as i found it on the roof of the cold store. It is live and was wired from the incoming side of a 63amp MEM box and was wired in 1.0 T&E
Mains loading is negligable for door frame, threashold and plinth heaters. The ELV side can have some significant current though!
Not good at all being backed by 60 odd amps protection on the primary!
You can get the trannies in IP65 type enclosures for the smaller sizes, but you seem to always seem to see the metal clad enclosure types, often sat on a roof covered in condensation ond standing water!
I would have hoped to have seem local isolation, and the wiring method being conduit or similar!
Just disconnected it today, have got to try and source one in the morning and then fit it. My worn out old person (mentor) has told me we will resite it in a dry area and run in some conduit to the door, only a short run, 3m.
Door will probably be rock solid in the morning.
