thanks for taking the time and trouble to reply, in spite of the mis-leading info, it is appreciated. Is it the general concensus that my best option is to call someone out?
Zorro...Slash,slash slash!
p.s enjoyed the banter, when i get this fixed i think i'll have some of what you guys were having. Again, many thanks.

I think the consensus is two fold, 1) check and possibly replace the oil pump coil, 2) Kev has drunk too much. :D

How do i test the coil? and if it proves to be faulty do i have to replace the oil pump as well or are they separate items?

Measure its resistance just after lockout, it's available separately.

it breaks down / fails when it gets hot. its separate from pump. there will be a wire going to it, and usually held on by allen type cap, or if suntec a nut and delta a spring clip. unplug wire, undo nut /whatever and remove. go to a supplier with said item in mitt, and say "i want one of these. please." they aint expensive. £15??

i replaced the coil and the smiley faces are on again. the advice about the faulty coil was right on the money and i would really like to thank all those who contributed to my initial enquiry but especially `Oilman` and `Wilhelm`for their continued support. Many thanks guys you have my respect.
