The boiler internal flue baffles will need to be thoroughly cleaned with a wire brush and the complete combustion area vacuumed out - if the smoking has been bad for long its amazing what comes out.
After that, its time for the burner to be correctly set up using oil pressure gauges and flue gas analysis equipment.

And a new nozzle, sounds like it wasn't replaced at the last service.

new nozzle ,new transformer, new capacitor and motor is shot as well as the ignition leads !

bugger thats going to cost .

Complete new burners are about £350 - £400 for this typical output.
Have a look at Heating Parts Specialist, maybe?
The burners come complete, but it will need someone with a certain knowledge to commission a new burner to the same output as your existing one.
If you don't want to go down that road, you can get your spares from this firm. Recommended!

Once cleaned, the burner should be very easy to set up - if your Service guy is trying to stitch you up with a new burner just because it is making smoke then he is a cowboy you should get shot - when a brand new burner is fitted to your boiler, it too may well create black smoke untill it is set up so why not just set up the old one!! the EOGB Inter PL10 was a super little burner!!

I'm surprised the Lone Ranger didn't specify a new pump and control box, too.....
Not that much left :p
Wonder if the motor is running slow?

thanks for input but you are massively jumping the gun ,a new burner was suggested by a poster above not my service guy ,and the boiler was smoking before he came out (which is why i called them out) the boiler is 20 years old and has been making a noise which service guy diagnosed as motor or pump (most likely motor) . the service guy is from a company we have a maintenance contract with (watsons) and have had nothing but good service from them ,i rang them this morning and he came out this afternoon!

Its actually me thats jumping your gun, not Boilerman2 who has probably forgotten more than I'll ever know....anyway I was only trying to propose some options - the sum of the spare parts may exceed that of a new unit!
If the burner was mine I'd definitely repair it and set it up in accordance with the manufacturers recommendations, and that shouldn't be too difficult. I hope you get it sorted!

If Watson's ( a company I know very well) are giving you such excellent Service, why on earth did you consider it nesecary to ask for help on this forum!
