Old films of British life...

Britain has changed beyond recognition in the last 40 years and it is for the worse.
I'm confident it changed beyond recognition in the 40 years before that, and the 40 years before that, ad infinitum.

For the better or worse is pure subjective. And usually narrow minded people will see it for the worst.
Sometimes it really is for the worst.

Said every generation ever
Rubbish excuse.

The rate of immigration is way beyond anything seen in history. It's not imagination, the country really is transforming beyond recognition like never before.

I doubt that many think the change is for the better. Many have been conditioned into pretending they're alright with it, I'm sure all have their private doubts whatever they say.

You obviously weren’t around when we were joined to Europe , or spoke German and were culturally French.

Yeah yeah... If you go back far enough you could have died of black death, or been picked up by a dinosaur and had your head bitten off.*

If doesn't mean everything's fine now, and that we're not ruining the place at a vastly quicker rate than in the past few centuries.

* obviously I know that this never actually happened.

Yeah yeah... If you go back far enough
Comparing one scenario in one time period with the same scenario in different time periods is exactly that.
The time period is usually decided by the originators preference to argue their particular narrative.

Or just go back to SPINLESS' favourite era and endure rampant racism, lousy quality cars, unsafe cars, preventable diseases, rubbish wages, bad teeth, poor health, smoking indoors, rampant sexism/downtrodden women, industrial poisoning, toxins in products etc.

As a kid though, I loved growing up in the 1970s.

"I remember the good old days when you could go for a swim on the south coast without getting run over by hundreds of dinghies!"
"I remember the good old days when you could go for a swim without getting run over by hundreds of turds!"

Canals, railways, the Industrial Revolution, the internal combustion engine, long hair, every generation laments the past, it’s called growing old. Bring back 1950’s rationing.
