Ideally the fusebox should be relaced, or at least if possible the asbestos fuseholders changed, but that will require an asbestos certified removal company.
It was an isolator L3 down I replaced the wire, then wished I hadn't, it was feeding a small office and they couldn't shut the shutters.....bloody job, wish I'd listened in school lol.

Absolutely, up until recently I have had to deal with the stuff. We dress up in the most ridiculous PPE when dealing with the stuff but tbh it is understandable now we know what we know. Years ago I was pulling those fuses all day long without any knowledge of the dangers.
It has crossed my mind but it takes about 10 years for you to find out, I think now I am past the worrying from previous times. I think at some stage we have all come into contact with it ,probably without even knowing. I worked on old steam boilers in one job where all of the lagging as well as seals where all blue asbestos. It is a worry but with H&S now it would be better to work in what we used to do without thinking. If you come accross pot ceramic fuse holders, just dont touch them without being kitted out with the correct PPE and clean air full face respirators.Does that worry you? Most of us will have worked on this type of equipment and never knew the dangers.When you see it now, it's hard to believe a small piece of cloth like that has the potential to cause so much illness
I did for many years Martin,but of course as the material ages it gets more crumbly and poses bigger dangers than it did when fairly new. When we moved into our current home there was asbestos flex feeding the immersion heater, installed in 1973. The first thing I did was wrap it in insulation tape.
