good evening, I hope some off you can help me. I have a piece of what apears to be 6mm twin and earth (red and black) it did feed a cooker.

what i would like to do is feed a small consumer unit for a new ring (4 double sockets) and a lighting circuit.

Is it acceptable to use the existing old style cable or should I replace it with new ?

Many thanks

Providing the cable is still in good condition you do not need to replace it just because it is in the old colours.

Consider installing a 32A radial for the sockets and running the lights off a FCU as an alternative option, save you having to find somewhere to site a subboard
