Accepting your comment at face value,(and I don't) and allowing for the doubling of cases every 2 - 3 days, and using BBC figures for France, that'll put France on about 1000 cases of Omicron, compared to UK's 10,000 (BBC figures), or 28,000 using Notch's figures.
That's still one heck of a mismatch.
The restrictions in European countries, by and large have been a) more restrictive, and b) more consistent, and c) better observed by the people than in UK.

Where do you get your figure of 65k for France for the Omicron variant.
It looks at odds with sites that I've seen.

UK figures:
Another 78,610 Covid cases were recorded in the UK on Wednesday – the highest daily number since the start of the pandemic.
In total more than 10,000 cases have been confirmed to be Omicron, and in London as many as 50 per cent of all Covid cases are the Omicron variant.
France figures:
According to Reuters, France reported 65,713 new Covid cases on Wednesday, its highest for 13 months.

Evidently you are taking the total cases for France and surreptitiously suggesting those are confirmed cases of Omicron.

If a large percentage of tests are negative, the amount of tests do not indicate a proportion of positive cases.

In London it is claimed that O variant is 50% of all cases. Any country introducing restrictions on travel now, has already missed the boat. The moment you can't trace the origin to travel is the moment you know you have many uncounted infections. The difference between nations is purely the pace and source, along with some head in the sand approaches (don't test = don't find). We wont know how deadly this is, for another 2 weeks probably.

It goes back to something I said a long time ago; anybody who thinks we can stop the virus spreading in the UK is deluded, there are simply too many people coming and going. By the time we stop flights from South Africa, there are already hundreds of cases here. Many of those people don't know they've got it so it spreads - and there's nothing anybody can do about it. I understand slowing it down, but we can't stop it. The question now is how serious it is/might be? Hopefully the early signs are correct and it is more akin to a cold or mild flu.

Some virologists seem to be annoyed by response times. Afraid I'm inclined to agree. They will even explain why. Not hard to understand based on R rates.

Wales latest - all sorts of changes post boxing day. Distancing and limits on numbers in shops, clubs shut etc while all the time infections are increasing. If that works it will take longer to settled down again due to the spread.

Same in England really but intervals are still longer than needed. Some aspects could be introduced more or less as they are announced.

It takes time to arrive at the decision, people need to be informed, the population need to be warned - it all takes time to implement. From a personal point of view - Wendy is nipping up to Edinburgh at the weekend on a visit to her relatives, imagine her being stuck there if they implemented a sudden lock down with zero notice?
