When considering engineered oiled wood or laminate. If you have young children who like tipping the contents of cups and plates on the floor. What would be a more sensible option? Can the oiled floor stain mark more easily?

Oil floors are very resilient. But always, and this counts for any type of finish, maintain your floor regularly so it keeps its dirt repellent character.
Another advantage of oiled floors is, you can rub it down locally when you only notice spots after two/three weeks and normally cleaning doesn't remove it. After rubbing it down you can apply three to four layer of hard wax (power wax) to give it back its protection wear layer
