My heart goes out to you. Years ago I was rather inebriated and decided to fix that pesky, creaky floorboard on the landing that had been annoying me for months. Drilling and screwing like a madman feeling very pleased with myself until I went through a water pipe. Water cascading through the ceiling below.
not really a joke - the screw is missing because the person who had the boards up last was installing water pipes under there, and the screw used to go in where the pipe has been installed, hence they didn't screw through their own pipe. That would be the good reason, but if it leaves a creaky or wobbly board, enthusiastic DIYer comes along 10 years later and doesn't consider why there's one screw missing and boshes straight through the pipe with their new electric screwdriver.
Was doing a job for a guy a lot of years ago. Said he was going to be installing sliding wardrobes at the weekend so I marked all pipe locations on the floorboards. Got a call Saturday afternoon, saying that he'd manage to drill through a pipe. You can't help some people.
