They are explained in the on site guide or guidance note 3, do you own the required testers and are confident in their use and interpereting the test results? If not I'd strongly urge you to have an electrician do the work. Replacing a CU is notifiable to your LABC under part p.
iam not doing any testing iam just learning how to test for my own benefit because iam thinking about going college to be a spark but i wanna learn as much as i can before i go to get a head start
There is new book on the market called "Part P Doctor" (available from Amazon.co.uk) which may be of interest to you. Other than that you are looking at books like BS7671:2001, the OSG and GN3 which are a bit more technical.
