Osmo Oil Over-application Odor Problem

Hi,
My contractor applied Osmo Oil Wood Wax Finish in thick layer the same way he would apply paint.

I understand he made a mistake but I kind of accepted that it will scratch over time and look awful.

What I can not accept is that odor is terrible even three months after application.
Will the odor ever go away or do I have to strip that thick layer of oil ?
