I'm building a combo low-level bulkhead / shelf where my deck meets my fence. The bulkhead will be made out of 21mm thick Iroko deck board.

I want to also use the recess to put some spots in for low-level lighting. Essentially it will be like deck step lights - so horizontally mounted.

But I'm really struggling to find a suitable model. Anything I search returns ground/walkover lights with the sleeving that designed to be sunk in concrete.

GU10 (as I have current garden lights on a dimmer)
Mains wiring (no transformer)
304/316 Stainless Steel
Spring mount
IP65 or higher

Any suggestions?

Thanks

In the days of tungsten lighting, bulbs were waterproof. But today bulbs are made of plastic not glass (with a few exceptions) and so we are looking at if the bulb can stop water ingress, not just the fitting.

In the main, instead of stopping water ingress, we simply give it a route out, so IP54 is good enough.

So there are three options, either a route out, or IP68, or extra low voltage.

In the main GU10 is designed to use tungsten, CFL, or LED, and the requirements change with the bulb used. I have seen MR16 lighting in a well, underwater, but the units were rather expensive, and it required the water to always cover the lamp for cooling.

I simply can't see why IP65 is required. I use Christmas extra low voltage lamps, and simply accept likely I will need to replace them each year.
