Hi,
I need power to my outbuildings, about 50m away. I need lights and a couple of sockets. The man I have got to do the job has dropped off a roll of single core cable. It's about 25mm outside diameter. It has a single inner core and a "shield" of smaller wires around it. (Rather like big co-ax!) A friend says this is not the stuff for the job, it should be 3 core. It will be going underground in ducting. Help!
Cheers, John.

well it is concentric of either type and is a very under rated but very very good quality cable and providing it has been sized correctly, will be perfect for the job(providing its split)

From those pics I'd say it's straight concentric

You can't use straight concentric and comply with BS7671.

The neutral is not insulated other than by the sheath, which isn't allowed!, and you haven't got a cpc either...

Strip a bit back and take a photograph....

Just tried that link and it only worrks if I'm signed in, so it won't work for you lot! Will try something else...

thats straight concentric and no good.dont blame your mate though, the wholesaler may well have been the one to tool it up

Whatever size you require, get the next one up for future expansion. I'd go 6mm 3 core swa to cover your a**e.
