My mum has a set of steps in her garden, which don't have a hand rail.
There are 4 steps, which are brick built with paving slabs treads.
What's the best option for fitting a handrail?

My thoughts are to build it from pressure treated timber.
I'm curious as to the best way to join the timber to the slab and also the bets size timber to use.

Cheers for that. As an electrician I don't get much call for drilling into paving slabs. The steps are quite wide and ideally I'd like a central rail.
There is a very slight overhang, but it looks like scewring into the brick is possible. If this is a daft idea, fitting alongside then steps is easily acheivable.

Given this is a handrail, what size timber would best suit?

Have you considered Key Clamp Handrail? Would last a lot longer than even treated timber. Same problems connecting it to the steps though
