Hi All
I wish to fit an outside light (PIR) above my patio door leading into back garden.
At present there is no cables electric etc.
Could anyone help me with a detailed diagram or instructions on the best way to do it and materials.
It is a semi house and i will be lifting carpets soon therefore if i need access under floor etc that should be no problem

Many thanks

Is there a socket in the room above the patio door, roughly where you want the light?

If so, you may be able to get the power from here, via a switched fused spur, providing certain conditions are satisfied.

Thanks for the reply.
There is a double socket on the wall just above skirting board approx 2.5 - 3 metres away from the patio door

I did consider that, feed a 2.5 mm cable into a 5amp fuse, then run the 1.5mm/1mm cable to the switch. THen run a cable from a switch to the lamp.
But the option I chose was an easier option. (So I thought). I might have to go that way if I csn't sort this out.

Hi Viewer
Thanx for your reply

Yes there is a single socket in the same position upstairs as the one I mentioned downstairs

If the light isn't too powerful, and you're happy to lift floorboards, you could supply the light from the lighting circuit.

To do this, you would need a permanent live and neutral supply. This may or may not be available from the nearest light - you would have to describe what wires are at the light.

You would have to fit a switch between the feed and the new outside light.

Thanks for that
I may have to wait and get the boards up and I will let you know what is there
Many thanks again and I will be in touch
