Hi, I am re-fitting an existing outside light for my parents and the wire coming out of the wall is only 2 core and has no earth. They want the lamp moved and have a length of cable thats 3 core including earth. Is this possible to wire together as i thought you have to have an earth.

Yes you should carry an earth all the way to the light, even if it does not require one.

Further investigation is needed before you do this.

And you should not use normal twin and earth cable outdoors - UV light from the sun degrades it.

Are you certain the earth wire hasn't been cut off? Have you seen where the existing cable comes from?
Is there an earth point here?

Perhaps you can replace the whole cable.

Does the cable need to run outside? Can some of it go inside?

Does the light actually require an earth connection?
