Can I paint over blue engineering bricks (waterproof) without comprising their damp-proofing effect and if so what type of paint can I use ?

Hi,
It is rather a long story which I wont bore you all with but I have had to render a section of wall. This stopped just above the chemical dpc which is above some blue bricks. I was hoping to paint the render one colour (white) and the dpc and blue bricks another colour - probably black. Otherwise I will end up with 3 colours white, red brick and blue brick! Any suggestions ?

You wont compromise the effectiveness of the brick...but they are notorious for not receiving paint well

Id say a thinned coat of alkali resisting primer first
