my wife has now decided that she does not like the paterned wallpaper i put up last year it has a smooth shiny patern in it will i be able to paint over it and if so will i need a special type of paint

yes you can paint over vinal paper with normal emulsion its easier to use embossed paper if you always fancy a change as you can keep repainting embossed paper
