Paracetamol

I have a chronic back condition which has manifested itself in my lower back in the form of a compressed disc.

I have had it for years and have been using anti-inflammatories and pain killers to control the discomfort and pain.

However, in January of this year, whilst sitting waiting for a doc's appointment regarding summat else, I read a leaflet about using paracetamol as a daily medicine for pain relief.

I mentioned it to the doc and he said give it a go. There is no dependency risk, little risk of harm if the dosage is adhered to and there is no tolerance issues either, so i did give it a go.

It has made a mahoosive difference. I take a couple in the morning and a couple at lunch. Two more for bed. Daily.

What size tabs. Are they special small ones like the daily aspirin tabs or are you talking off the shelf size ones. Years of lifting 50kg bags of cement, plaster and wheeling overloaded barrows and 8" conkers (you don't get those these days) hasn't done my lower back any good at all.

Just regular paracetamol John.
Give it a whirl and take it regularly.

Heard on a medical radio program last year that the best pain relief was half dose paracetamol, half does ibuprofen with a cup of coffee.

I was, and still am, surprised by the results.

I was your typical builder getting out of the van and forcing myself upright with a wince and a swift hand to the lower back for a rub.

I would not say 'I'm cured!'..... but I am a lot better than I was.

Yet my doc had me on a full dose (400mg) of each 4 times a day last year.

Placebo affect aside...

A great American doctor I used to listen to on his radio program, (Dr. Dean Edell), said something which I always remember about anyone or any Company pushing a 'good' drug or cure.

I'll have to paraphrase because it was some 15 years ago now. There are three possible outcomes to your malady: -

1) It gets better, so it's working.
2) It hasn't changed, so it arrested the condition..
3) It gets worse, so you need more.

If you are on any kind of heart medication, get professional advice before popping Ibuprofen.
John :)

im supposed to be on
600mg of ibuprofen 3 times a day,and 2 500mg of co codemol 3 times a day.
all because of osteo arthritis, late 50s to 60s im looking at new knees.

ive had a magnitude of different drugs over the years, and these are the only 1s that seem to do the trick.
BUT because i know they work i only take them when my knees flare up big styli.but i now have to take a stomach settler with these as they have started to cause me indigestion.

id love to get away with just taking paracetamol.

As I said in a post above, "my doc had me on a full dose (400mg) of each (para and Ibo 4 times a day last year" and another doc prescribed the same for gall stone pain earlier this year.

Both knew that I had an extensive history of cardiac events and that I have been on heart medication for 22 years but this was never raised when I was given the Ibuprofen.

Edit: After reading this:

I have decided to raise the matter with my doc.

I have L4 compressed disc and on 30/500mg co-codamol with ibuprofen but only temporary pain relief, not tried the paracetamol, might give that a go
