we are lucky to be finishing a renovation on an old house in italy and are trying to get some Uk reclaimed teak parquet flooring put down on our new concrete floor, we scrapped each tile clean 20sqm!!! but we are bing told a number of thing ...

1. concrete is to damp ... can under stand this. 2. what remains of the tar will react with the new glue and all the flooring must be cleaned again!!!
3. and because it is old we will have gaps between the tiles, that will not look good, myself i cannot understand why we would gaps?
any comments ? ideas or help?

Re 2: modern adhesives will take a bit longer to bond everything when there is bitumen residue left, that's all.

Re 3: reclaimed does have it's irregular shapes, but isn't that the attraction? If you don't like the gaps, fit the tiles as best as possible together, sand it and save the sand-dust of the second sanding (grit 80). Mix it with wood-filler and 'plaster' over tiles. Third sanding will take care of excess woodfiller

Hope this helps
