Hi everyone. My question relates to a partition wall. I've recently been left a Victorian terraced house. I've decided to split the rear first floor into two, in order to do this I have to install a partition wall which I'll do later. The house is a traditional two up two down terrace with the staircase leading up from the kitchen. The present partition also encases the staircase opening. My plan was to remove this partition and install another, splitting the width space 50/50. I expected the present partition wall to be plaster and lath but half way up it's brick within a stud type frame, the upper section is plaster and lath. I don't think it's a load bearing wall, just a partition. The question for all is as follows. Why would the present partition wall be split in this way, is it a common way to build? Are you able to offer some assurance it's not load bearing please? Thanks all.
