Just purchased a new-build. I thought the internal partitions would have been stud wall but just having a look at similar houses being built next to my house and all the partition walls seem to be made with 4" white blocks. It's the very soft blocks. They've built a Huge WC in the passage which is a waste of space and I want to take down the wall and make a stud wall and make WC smaller to give myself bigger passage space.

Question: is this block partition likely to just be a partition or is there any chance it can be load-bearing holding upper floor joists or something? Any particular way to determine if there is anything resting or loaded on that wall? Being such a soft block and only 4" thick i would think it's just a cosmetic partition.

I've worked on plenty of houses where AAC blocks were used for ground floor partition walls, and some would carry the joists.

The white blocks have seemed to be used for all partitioning downstairs and upstairs. Is there a quick way to determine if the wall is carrying any joists? Other than the possibility of carrying top floor joists, these blocks should not be load-bearing should they?
