i am in 2 minds about whether to do a loft conversion.

if getting a party wall agreement was in anyway problematic or expensive i wouldnt go ahead.

from what i have read , i would need to serve a notice on neighbour.

if they consented, all well and good.

if they declined i would probably just forget the idea.

but the template notices i have read suggest that i need to inform them who my surveyor is if they decline.

does that mean i am commited to having a survey and paying for theirs even if i decide i do not want to go ahead ?

surely, i only need to pay for surveyors if they decline and i decide to press ahead with the conversion.

Speak to them first, tell them what you want to do, and ask if they are in agreement and have no objections.

If they agree, all well and good but get it in writing - you then don't have to bother with the PWA.

If they don't agree, it's then that surveyors get involved. But presumably you would have dropped the idea by then.
