Good Evening,

A friend down the road from me wishes to replace his damaged and fancy light fitting in his upstairs toilet.

He is quite happy to replace it with a normal light fitting.

I suggested a Batten-Holder, but he has a newly packaged pendant set amongst a few pieces of junk.

The Toilet room only consists of the cistern itself and lavatory pan (Although there is an airing cupboard within the room).

This may sound like a basic question, but word of mouth has a lot of contradictory advice and opinions.

Back in the days of the 14th and 15th Edition (1966-1991), the rules were to use a fitting with a Home Office skirt (a flared shade ring like the one on a batten holder) in a bathroom. Or to use an enclosed fitting. But there are no restrictions re the regulations in a room with just a toilet.

The only thing you need be wary of with a pendant set is that if the ceiling is fairly low, the shade does not foul the door.
