Think I've posted similar before, but used search & can't find anything. Have you ever gone to a filling station, filled up to, say, £30.00 then found on the receipt it says "£30.01" ?

I find this regularly. I'm convinced they have a "+1p" button on the pump console...

Perhaps if wasn't so a nal as to fill up to round pounds every time...

Cannot remember where but a garage I called at recently had an open box on the counter called "penny box". The idea was if you put £9.99 fuel in your tank, the penny change went in the box, if you put £10.01 fuel in, the penny came out of the box. Obviously, honesty is needed but by the number of pennies in the box it seemed to work.

My local Total used to do the same thing. They've just changed the pumps, though and it hasn't happened since then.

Why use cash? You have to go to the cash machine, wait for the dispenser, then go to the petrol station, where a clerk has to take your cash, file it, then dispense change and a reciept if you're lucky.

The alternative - straight to the PFS, fill up, card in, pin in, card out, reciept. Home.

Saving energy too. How many people leave their engines running while at the ATM? How much does it cost to run and replenish an ATM three times a week? The vans, the personell, the training, loads of energy involved.

Unmanned, cashless PFSs are the future, with central monitoring stations.

and more people without a reason to get out of bed and do what they want to do, earn their own cash no matter how little it may be.
