pensioners food home delivery

Blimey Harry, 16 days and you're thinking of moving another one in! You don't let the grass grow under your feet, do you?

She began her packing 14 days before that, it was obvious she wasn't entirely settled during those two previous years. So you could say I was ready for it.

So sorry - horrible feeling. A lot of us have been there though so we know.

I knew when I was going to be on my own when the then live-in G/F started complaining about my snoring and sleeping in a different room.

Wiltshire foods are not “ordinary” ready meals

They provide a specialist service for frail or vulnerable people.
Who cares if the super count is high? Most of these customers don’t exactly have long, at least as far as worrying about sugar content. my Mum more or less relied on Ensure drinks in order to get the calorie count up.

an Asda driver pretty much bungs the delivery at you. Wiltshire packs it, the office monitor what’s ordered, the drivers are aware that their clientele is vulnerable.

Meals on wheels is more expensive, reasonably rushed, and doesn’t distinguish between people who just need food available compared to waiting for a hot delivery at slightly random times. It is a different service.

unless you are a geriatric nutritionist I would be wary of comparing meals aimed at elderly people v a basic supermarket Shergar Lasagne.

yes thats exactly what i was hoping for to build up a full understanding and a full picture the delivery end extra value seems to help to understand the added value
and the ability to order puree and more processed foods for those restricted eating abilities
the responses are quite encouraging with little or no unhelpful comments [this comment is not aimed at anyone (n)]

I don't think that 'Wiltshire Foods' is the answer to those pensioners who are facing a choice between "heat or eat".

The service they provide seems to be VERY inefficient to me & aimed mostly at folk who are cash rich/time poor.

I wonder what their 'target demographic' actually is?

Who told you about that :)

It began with that, but quickly she moved to being hyper-critical about the very silliest of things. Me trying to ignore the comments and remain tolerant, but there are limits to my tolerance - I was wondering who would break first, her or me. Only my liking for her and sympathy for her hang ups, prevented me telling her to go. So when she said she was leaving of her own accord, I made no attempt to dissuade her.

Reading up on Filipinos, it suggests they have much more loyalty to their partner in life and talking to her she seems to be the absolute ultimate in loyalty - judging by what she claims to have put up with from her original partner, before he passed away.

the cost factor was one off the issues i was thinking about but its seems many are buying for someone else which is actually good way to help someone with pride as you can dress it up as an easy meal option and not embarrass them with finacial help

their target is elderly/ vulnerable people who perhaps live alone.
Not everyone is on the breadline and it is a cheaper alternative to meals on wheels.
Many people are unable to cook a “meat and two veg” meal yet want one.
My aunt uses them, she’s in her 80’s, lives alone and has MS.
What makes you the expert on how someone should feed themselves?

Mrs Mottie started buying them for her mum because she currently has a broken arm and can't prepare meals for herself.

Excellent post. Sadly too many are blinkered too often. All many can see is people out of work and on the bread line especially if
they are older and/or frail.

Where we live mostly older people are even older than us, lol but all property is privately owned and no rentals in our close. Some of use this service other use another I forget their name.

There is a market for it and are not expensive when compared to meals on wheels etc and for most council services you need an assessment even if you are paying for the items.

Hi,
No problems with Wiltshire Farm Foods. Used to order them for my father, I then knew that he was having a meal each day that was nutritious. He could cook/prepare his own breakfast and supper, when he wasn't in his greenhouse, garden or pottering in his workshop! Wiltshire would deliver each week, and place them in his freezer. Cooking was simple, just a few minutes zapping in the microwave. Also one other important factor for me is that it was another pair or eyes that would visit his house, otherwise he was a bit of a loner. Had just one or two phone calls from them was there was no answer at the door when they tried to deliver. The cost was not so important, although I never told my father the actual weekly costs!
Great service for him and me.
