I live in a terrace house and at the back of the house I have a single story extension. As you step out into the garden I have a 5.5m x 3.5m decking area which covers the width of the property.

With our poor weather I would like to build a shelter over the decking. I was thinking timber frame with polycarbonate sheeting.

This will be a roof only and not have any sides.

Anyone know if this is permitted or are they certain rules that I need I adhere to?

How about a sun canopy/shade.
They are not a permanent feature like polycarbonate (and they look a lot better)

It would fall under permitted development rules

But normally, people would just go ahead and built it

That's for extensions, this structure will come under a different class
