I know this has been asked before but I've just upgraded my old phone to a Smartphone. Insure or not insure? That's my question.

Don't, unless you are prone to losing or breaking things.

It's worth considering though how much a replacement would cost. If several hundred £'s, then yes.

Depends on what Smartphone ye've bought. iPhones (if stolen) can and are blocked completely by the network so they can't be used whatsoever. Still an expensive item to replace though.
I watched an article on the BBC the other day about how insurers manage to wiggle their way out of paying for claims though. One householder, had a house insurance claim refused , because they hadn't re-grouted the bathroom tiles every year. (think they'd had a water leak and it had flooded downstairs)
So whatever you decide to do, read the bloody small print... A mate o mine had his smartphone stolen as he answered a call. Someone ran up from behind and snatched it oot of his hand. The insurance company refused to pay out stating he hadn't protected the phone whilst using it. (WTF,,, Is there a different way of answering a mobile phone call , apart from holding it up to your bloody ear ? )

Is it covered on contents insurance for the house?

Dunno where it is or even who it is with with.

Useful info. :?

The only thing I'd recommend is some kind of extended warranty. Are you on contract or PAYG?

It's contract but you always get ripped by the insurance they sell u in the shop.

Insurance rarely (in my and my extended family's experience) gets a replacement for theft or loss - the insurers have this thing about taking "reasonable" care over the phone;s whereabouts which tends to let them off the hook and you out of pocket in terms of dividends.

However, since you'll probably want to replace in a couple of years, an extended warranty beyond the 12 months is deffo worthwhile if possible. Check with your suppliers.

I have cover for my latest (galaxy big phone thingy) and always have had cover. However the cost of cover doubled once i switched to a smart phone.

In one year i got through several handsets.
