Hi all.
I thinkI have a simple issue.
In short, my main phone line as in my living room line is fine. The phone line plate that is shared with the tv ariel has never had a tone.
The BT box in the airing cupboard has two seperate flex that are not connected, and two that are. I have attached photos..

Any advice?

Open the plate and see if there's anything behind it. Sometimes the builders install these plates without running phone cables to it.

If there is then short a pair in the wire, go back to the bt point in the airing cupboard and using a multimeter find the short, and connect that pair to your incoming phone line. You can either use connector blocks or fit a socket there.

Thanks Cajar

What do you mea by 'short'? Do you mean check the current?
Please don't take offence at this.
If you have to ask the meaning of 'short' you are well 'out of your depth', get someone in before you make things worse.

hmm I work for a property mgt company. I know plenty of sparkys will get them in I think.

Thanks anyway.

You'd be better off finding a telephone engineer. I've seen some sparks' attempts at telephony and it leaves much to be desired!

O.K so I'm off topic.

Just going through the posts and came across this one.

Not a lot can be done about it now, and I suppose it's fixed anyway.

What part of Surrey are you from KBDIY, I'm in Cobham quite often ?

This is a diy site and I really don't appreciate the answer Europlex gave.

CD
.... and I apologised at the start!

I'll take it all back then, manaquin, you just carry on, see if you can mess things up, if you do, get someone in.

That do for you T.P.C.?

Just for the record - I agree - if someone has to ask "what's a short?" then they are well advised to steer clear!

He doesn't know that ariel is washing powder either. It is a TV aerial socket.
